Friends,
Please see the below information about a very important event that my friend Donney is helping coordinate tomorrow. It is taking place at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. As we are attempting to return to some normalcy in the wake of the flood, I urge you all to remember that a large portion of our community are still dealing with the effects of Alton Sterling being slain by Baton Rouge law enforcement who have not to date been held accountable for their actions. This event is on behalf of the children he left behind. Please share this info with your network.
On Tuesday, July 5th the children of Alton Sterling lost their father by way of a world-publicized state sanctioned murder. Alton Sterling, known to residents of the Fairfields community as the CD Man, was out selling CDs to provide for his family. He is no longer here to be able to do so, therefore it is up to his community to truly be a village for the children he left behind.
To that end, the #Artists4Alton show is the first in a series of initiatives geared toward helping take care of the Sterling children. This event has been approved by Alton's primary guardian, his aunt Ms. Veda. ALL PROCEEDS from this event will be put into a Liberty Banks savings account per the request of his aunt.
This show consists of an all-star line up of some of the city's most celebrated artists in the genre of spoken word poetry, hip hop and inspirational music. Featuring the talents of
